BarQR
Privacy Policy
The short version
- BarQR has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no server of its own. We don't collect, sell or share your personal data.
- The app asks for no camera, storage, media, location or contacts permission.
- Codes you create and images you scan are processed on your phone.
- BarQR uses two Google libraries, ML Kit and Google Play services, which send Google limited technical data such as device model and app version. They don't send your images or the contents of your codes.
1. Who we are
BarQR is a QR code and barcode maker and scanner for Android, published by Hexhad. Questions about this policy can be sent to hexhad@gmail.com.
2. Data BarQR handles, and where it stays
| Data | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| Text you type to create a code | Turned into a code on your phone. It isn't sent anywhere and isn't kept after you close the app. |
| Codes you save | Saved as images in your phone's Pictures/BarQR folder, where you can view or delete them like any photo. They leave your phone only if you share them. |
| Photos you choose to scan | Opened through Android's system photo picker, so BarQR can read only the photo you pick. The photo is read into memory, scanned on your phone, and never copied, stored or uploaded by BarQR. |
| Camera scans | The camera is opened by Google Play services (the Google code scanner), not by BarQR, which is why BarQR needs no camera permission. BarQR receives only the decoded result. |
| Scan results and recent scans | Kept in memory while the app is open, and cleared when it closes. Nothing is uploaded. |
| Copied text | When you tap Copy, the value goes to your phone's clipboard, managed by Android. |
| Appearance setting | Your light, dark or system theme choice is stored on your phone. If you use Android's backup, it may be included in your device backup with your Google account, under Google's terms. |
3. Third-party services
BarQR includes these Google components. They run on your phone, but they may contact Google servers:
Google ML Kit (barcode scanning)
ML Kit reads codes from photos on your device; images are not sent to Google. ML Kit may download model or compatibility updates and sends Google metrics about its performance and use, such as device model, Android version, app package name and version, and API usage. Google uses this data to maintain and improve ML Kit and to detect misuse.
Google Play services (Google code scanner)
When you choose Scan with camera, Google Play services shows the camera screen and decodes the code on your device, then returns the result to BarQR. Like ML Kit, it may send Google technical and usage metrics.
Google's handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy and the ML Kit terms. BarQR has no access to the data these components send to Google.
Google Play in-app updates
When you open BarQR, it asks the Google Play Store app on your phone whether a newer version is available. If there is one, Google Play downloads and installs it. This check goes through Google Play under Google's terms; BarQR sends no data of its own.
Apps you choose to open
If you tap Open link, Call, Send email or Share, the value is handed to the app you pick (for example your browser or messaging app), and that app's own privacy policy applies.
4. What we don't do
- We don't collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, location, contacts or device identifiers.
- We don't use advertising, analytics or crash-reporting services.
- We don't sell, rent or share personal data with anyone.
- We don't track you across apps or websites.
5. Permissions
BarQR requests no dangerous permissions. Its install package declares internet and network-state access, which Google Play services, ML Kit and Google Play in-app updates use for the updates and metrics described above; Android grants these automatically and they don't give access to your personal data.
6. Data retention and deletion
BarQR keeps nothing on a server, so there is nothing for us to delete. On your phone, you can delete saved codes from your gallery, clear the app's data in Settings → Apps → BarQR → Storage, or uninstall the app.
7. Security
Because your content is processed on your device and BarQR runs no servers, your data isn't stored or sent by us. Data that Google's components send is handled under Google's security practices.
8. Children
BarQR is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act give you rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Since BarQR doesn't collect personal data, we hold none about you. For data held by Google, use the tools in your Google Account. You can contact us at any time with questions.
10. Changes to this policy
If BarQR starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and its effective date before the change ships in the app.
